Pros and cons
Pros
- USB-C instead of Lightning on the iPhone 14
- 48MP main camera with a 2x Telephoto option; the iPhone 14 has a 12MP main camera
- The Dynamic Island and 2000 nits peak outdoor brightness, twice the iPhone 14's outdoor peak
- Same size and 48MP main camera as the iPhone 16
Cons
- No Apple Intelligence: Apple supports it on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 16 and later, not the base 15
- No ProMotion; the 120Hz display came to the base iPhone with the iPhone 17
- Up to 20 hours of video playback, the same as the iPhone 14 and 2 hours less than the iPhone 16
- MagSafe and Qi2 at up to 15W; the iPhone 16 charges wirelessly at up to 25W
Our verdict
The iPhone 15 moved the base iPhone to USB-C and a 48MP main camera, and added the Dynamic Island. It is still supported by iOS 27, so it remains a good value pick, especially renewed.
The catch is Apple Intelligence, which the base 15 does not support. If you want it, look at the iPhone 16, which also adds Camera Control, the Action button and two more hours of video playback.
