Pros and cons
Pros
- Starts at 128GB, double the 10th generation iPad's 64GB, with a new 512GB option
- A16 chip; Apple says it is nearly 30% faster than the 10th generation
- Landscape front camera, Touch ID and USB-C
- Four colours: Silver, Blue, Pink and Yellow
Cons
- No Apple Intelligence: Apple supports it on the iPad mini (A17 Pro) and iPads with M1 or later
- No Apple Pencil Pro or 2nd generation support
- Display is not laminated or antireflective, and has no P3 wide colour, unlike the iPad Air
- USB 2 at up to 480Mb/s
Our verdict
The iPad (A16) is the simplest way into an iPad: an 11-inch screen, Touch ID, USB-C, a landscape front camera for video calls and 128GB to start. For streaming, browsing, notes and schoolwork it is plenty.
It skips Apple Intelligence and Apple Pencil Pro, and its screen is not laminated. If you draw or want Apple Intelligence, the iPad Air or iPad mini is the better pick.
