Our verdict
The iPhone 11 is the cheapest way into a current iPhone: it still gets iOS 27, and its dual 12MP cameras with Night mode hold up well for everyday photos.
It is also the oldest model we would consider. There is no 5G, no OLED, no MagSafe and no Apple Intelligence, and a used unit's battery will have aged, so check the battery health and the warranty. For a little more, an iPhone 13 fixes most of these.
